Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 92
The Ninety-Second Lot: Gui-Yi
Traditional fortune label: Moderate-Unfavorable Lot
Lot poem
This year's grain harvest is not as good as before, Prices are soaring, doubling those of a hundred years. Plagues and epidemics are spreading everywhere, Only after the return of the Yang element will safety be restored.
Story and textual notes
'Grain' is what farmers rely on. 'Not as good as before' fears the worries of floods, droughts, or locust plagues. 'Prices soaring' is due to famine. 'Doubling those of a hundred years' refers to a disaster unseen for a century. 'Epidemics' are seasonal diseases, leading to the disaster of death. 'Return of the Yang' refers to the Winter Solstice in the Zi month, or interpreted as 'returning after seven days,' corresponding to the number seven. 'Safety restored' means only at this time will fortune turn favorable, disaster leave, and blessings arrive. The seeker who can endure hardships and obstacles will have a decent harvest in the end; those who cannot endure have no hope.
Interpretation
This year's harvest cannot compare to previous years; it is pitifully small. The poor harvest caused by natural disasters has led to huge fluctuations in commodity prices, a major upheaval unseen in a hundred years. Unpreventable natural disasters have also caused epidemics to spread with fatal dangers. It will only be controlled and gradually return to normal around the Winter Solstice. This lot indicates poor luck this year and that things will not go smoothly. One must wait until the end of the year near the Winter Solstice for things to stabilize. However, as the year is almost over by then, it suggests more bad luck than good, and one must be extremely cautious.
