Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 94
The Ninety-Fourth Lot: Gui-Ding
Traditional fortune label: Good Fortune
Lot poem
Common utensils and tools are the same as others, Crafted by the skilled carpenter and wheelwright. Everything has its destiny, so accept your lot for now, Only in autumn or winter will the master arrive.
Story and textual notes
'Utensils' are what are used in the human world, which is true for everyone. 'Carpenters and wheelwrights' are craftsmen who make these utensils. 'Skilled crafting' means exquisite carving and shaping. 'Following destiny' means adapting to the times. 'Accepting one's lot' means keeping to oneself without seeking greedily. 'Master' is the person who seeks the carpenter or wheelwright. 'Met only in autumn and winter' means that encounters have their own timing, and success is achieved when the time arrives. For the seeker, near-term matters will be fulfilled in autumn and winter, and long-term matters in the later years of life. In summary, accepting one's lot and following destiny is the best strategy.
Interpretation
The tools used daily are the same as everyone else's. An exquisite artisan who makes utensils may have ingenious craftsmanship, but when there is no need for his work, he can only silently refine his skills, adapt to circumstances, and stick to his duty without forcing things. It is not until autumn or winter that he meets a master who needs his tools, allowing him to demonstrate his craftsmanship. This lot indicates that one should focus on refining one's skills in ordinary times and wait for the opportunity. When the time comes, a master who appreciates the artisan's skills will appear.
Traditional summary
Meet a benefactor. Lawsuits: will find an arbiter. Fame: still delayed. Illness: not yet cured. Marriage: not yet accomplished. News: still blocked. Wait for autumn and winter to have an encounter.
