Interpretation
Wang Zhi was originally a simple woodcutter. One day, he went up the mountain to chop wood and accidentally wandered into an immortal mountain. He saw two elderly men playing chess. The match was between masters, with countless variations and great interest. Wang Zhi watched in fascination, forgetting everything else. Seven days and seven nights passed quickly. Only then did Wang Zhi discover that the axe he had brought had actually rotted, and he realized he should gather his firewood and go home. When he returned home, everything had changed: no one knew him, and he did not know anyone either. Upon asking in detail, he learned that he had been away from home for a thousand years! This is the story of 'seven days in the mountains, a thousand years in the world'.
