Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 27
The Twenty-Seventh Lot: Bing Geng
Traditional fortune label: Moderate
Lot poem
All things in the world have their rightful owners, Do not take even a single grain or a tiny bit. Heroes and outstanding figures are born of heaven, Yet they too must follow the rules step by step.
Story and textual notes
Fame and fortune cannot be attained in the near term, but success will come in the long run. 'Do not take a tiny bit' warns against greed and reckless desires. 'Must follow the rules' indicates that tasks should be handled step by step, rather than in a chaotic, disorderly manner, which would only lead to self-ruining.
Interpretation
All things in heaven and earth have their rightful place; do not take something because it is small, nor bully someone because they are weak. As a hero, one naturally possesses presence and style, but one must not use this to bully the weak; rather, restrain your pride and stick to your duty. What should not be yours must never be coveted. You must follow the rules and become someone admired by all, and blessings will surely follow. This lot primarily warns people to keep to their proper place, avoid reckless actions, and wait for the best timing to arrive.
Traditional summary
Do not start lawsuits; doctors must examine illnesses carefully; fame and fortune are left to fate; the traveler is delayed; marriage is undecided; in all matters, keep to your proper place.
