Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 28
The Twenty-Eighth Lot: Bing Xin
Traditional fortune label: Very Auspicious
Lot poem
Nobles, generals, and ministers are not born of a special seed, It is better to align with heaven through hard work. Human effort is fully recognized by heavenly principles, How can a person of high talent remain confined to the woods and springs?
Story and textual notes
Achievement, wealth, and status can be attained through hard work and hardship; they are not restricted by distinctions between humble huts and wealthy mansions. This is what is meant by 'not born of a special seed.' Although currently constrained, you will eventually meet your time. Just exhaust your own efforts and work hard. Once human effort is exhausted, heavenly principles will surely respond. As for scholars, since their talent and learning are high, how can they remain confined to the woods and springs for long? Before long, they will have the prospect of soaring high. This is true for all things; one should only seek within oneself first.
Interpretation
The achievements and wealth of the human world do not fall from the sky; as long as you work diligently, you will surely reach them. They are not restricted to the families of high officials and nobles; anyone can receive their due rewards through hard work and effort. The so-called 'do your best and leave the rest to heaven' means that when you strive hard to climb up, there is no way heaven will not see it. Talent, virtue, and ability cannot be suppressed forever, and there will always be a day to stand out. The same applies to all things: as long as effort is put in first, it will not be ignored. Therefore, demand more of yourself first, and you will have a day of success.
Traditional summary
Illness and lawsuits will take time to resolve; fame and fortune must wait a little; lost items will surely be found; though temporarily constrained, all will eventually turn out well.
