Distinguishing not between north, south, west, or east, Eyes are dim and ears seem deaf. Study thoroughly one volume of the Yellow Court Scripture, Regardless of noble or lowly birth, poverty or success.

East, west, south, and north refer to the four directions. Dim eyes and deaf ears warn one not to provoke disputes. This means one should avoid all meddlesome affairs from all directions for safety. The 'Yellow Court Scripture' is a book of Taoist cultivation; reading it as a pastime frees one from the shackles of nobility, lowliness, poverty, or success, allowing one to attain the joy of peace and quiet. In all matters, retreat and hold your ground, as any action will easily lead to blame.
