Story and textual notes
Living in seclusion and solitude. No one to offer help. Under the dim glow of a solitary lamp, pitying one's own shadow. This describes the unbearable suffering of being poor and humble. 'Fine autumn light' implies good news will arrive in autumn. 'Gold' refers to the meaning of 'a letter from home is worth ten thousand pieces of gold'. 'Sailing to the northern dynasty' means the resolution should be in the north. 'A small boat as livelihood' means sailing swiftly with a light sail; the livelihood is within sight and can be achieved without toil. Sorrow first, joy later; waiting for the right time brings good fortune.
Interpretation
You are currently in a period of bad luck, spending countless lonely and quiet days, waiting in silence. Eventually, good fortune will arrive, likely in autumn, and it will come suddenly, instantly breaking through the stagnation. You will live a relaxed and easy life, with no livelihood concerns at all. Good fortune may come from the north or require you to go to the north; everything is arranged by fate. The current hardships will serve as the foundation for your future happiness.
