The 54th Lot: Ji Ding
Traditional fortune label: Moderate
Lot poem
Showing off heroism amidst a crowd of ten thousand, Wishing to soar high into the heavens. Yet the wind is unfavorable for riding the current, So labor diligently by the blue lamp and yellow scrolls.
Story and textual notes
Hero. Refers to a person of outstanding talent. Standing above ten thousand people, surpassing them all. Soaring into the heavens represents the ambition to reach the high clouds in a single step. However, things have an order, and fortune has different speeds. 'Unfavorable wind for riding the current' means the time is not yet right and the situation is not favorable. Like a fish out of water or a bird without wind, how can one be pleased and smooth? Yellow scrolls and blue lamps are the basic occupation of a scholar. Keeping diligent and studying hard to wait for the right time. Only when the time comes will satisfaction be allowed. For now, it is best to keep to the old ways, remain content, and do not act rashly.
Interpretation
You wish to rise above others and pride yourself on having extraordinary abilities. Unfortunately, all things in heaven and earth have their order, and a noble ideal does not guarantee immediate success. You must wait for the right opportunity. Currently, your luck is unfavorable, like a boat on a shallow beach or wings unable to catch the wind, rendering you unable to act according to your wishes. You must work hard to get through this dark and turbulent difficulty, waiting for good fortune to arrive. At present, you must focus on reading or self-cultivation. When in confusion, one can find answers in books. You must not slack off, but work hard and wait for good luck.
Traditional summary
Wealth not yet attained; fame not yet surpassed; lawsuits are unfavorable; illness not yet cleared; marriage is hard to trust; travel path is long; wait for the time to arrive, and all matters will be abundant.
