Lot 9: Jia Ren
Traditional fortune label: Great Fortune
Lot poem
Looking toward Chang'an for news of you, Often looking closely in the water-chestnut bronze mirror. Hearing that the official documents are about to cross the border, This morning a joyful expression rises to the eyebrows.
Story and textual notes
Looking for news signifies having waited for a long time. Looking closely means looking at oneself in the mirror. This describes an anxious state of anticipation. The documents entering the border means the news has arrived. Joy on the eyebrows indicates a great sense of relief and pride. All matters are accomplished after a long time and become easy after being difficult; one must not be too hasty.
Interpretation
Having waited so long for the anticipated news that impatience was setting in, suddenly the good news arrives, bringing unexpected joy and raising the eyebrows in happiness, with all hard work receiving a response. This indicates that after a long period of waiting, there is finally a good reward. This lot indicates that one must exercise great patience and not give up just because there is no news temporarily; as long as you persist and wait, a good message will surely come.
