Lot poem
The celestial flower in heaven, it is hard to ask who planted it, How many changes have occurred in the affairs of the mortal world. Your future is already recorded in the public and private ledgers, Punishments and rewards are clear, distinguishing the turbid from the pure.
Story and textual notes
Xuemei was a princess of the ancient kingdom of Annan. She sought a husband through a couplet competition. Her first line was 'Three feet of snow in front of the Taiji Palace', and no one in her country could match it. A man named Huang Huagui from Guangdong had a stroke of inspiration and matched it with 'A branch of plum blossom in the Guanghan Palace', and was thus chosen as the consort.
Interpretation
The meaning of the oracle lot is: Do not ask who planted this celestial flower in the Guanghan Palace of heaven; now that it has fallen to the mortal world, human affairs have already changed. Everyone's destiny is already predetermined by heaven, and good and evil will ultimately meet with their respective retribution.
