Story and textual notes
During the Tang Dynasty, Prime Minister Wang threw a silk ball to choose a husband for his daughter. Lady Baochuan set her heart on Xue Pinggui, so the silk ball landed on him. However, Prime Minister Wang disdained Pinggui's poverty and wished to renege on the promise. Fortunately, Baochuan's love was as firm as gold; she chose to give up wealth and married Pinggui in his cold kiln to live together. Shortly after their marriage, Pinggui joined the army to fight in wars, while Baochuan guarded the cold kiln alone.
Interpretation
