Celestial Lot 83: Chisongzi Invites to Hermitage
Traditional fortune label: Moderate Celestial Lot
Lot poem
Having lived in the mortal world, when does one find leisure? Worldly affairs are like overlapping mountains. Even the rich worry about not having noble children, Unaware of flowers blooming and then withering away.
Story and textual notes
The immortal Chisongzi advises people to retreat into hermitage. He said: living in the mortal world, one truly does not know when leisure can be found. Worldly affairs are chaotic and pile up like mountains; the poor hope to prosper, while the rich worry that their children will not succeed. In the midst of hard struggling, flowers bloom and fade before one even notices.
Interpretation
Worldly affairs turn like a wheel, and the pursuit of fame and fortune is endless. Why not take things as they come, putting aside gains, losses, honor, and disgrace? In everything, seek only peace of mind, and be the master of your life, not its slave. If a person can see through things and be content, they will find joy in it. Worldly cycles show that wealth and honor do not last forever. For all fame, wealth, spouse, and children, first be content, and second, see through them. Go with the flow and do not be burdened by worldly affairs, only then can this body enjoy a day of leisure.
Traditional summary
Do not covet fame and wealth. Sericulture and livestock bring no worries. The traveler has not arrived. Do not plan for marriage. The home is safe. Illness can be cured. Pregnancy will yield a daughter, as destined. In planning endeavors, do not be anxious.
