Lot poem
Traveling far to foreign lands wearing the Yuchang sword, Who would have expected Lord Xu to desire it? Upon returning, wishing to present it as a gift, Instead hanging it under a tree to express everlasting sentiment.
Story and textual notes
Wu Jizi, the youngest son of King Shoumeng of Wu, was intelligent and learned. The King of Wu intended to depose the eldest son and establish the youngest, passing the throne to him, but he firmly refused. Later, he traveled through various states and was famous for his wide range of knowledge. When Wu Jizi traveled to the State of Xu, Lord Xu liked Jizi's Yuchang sword very much. Jizi promised him that he would present the sword to him upon returning from his travels. Unexpectedly, when he returned later, Lord Xu had already passed away. Jizi could only hang the Yuchang sword on a large tree in front of Lord Xu's tomb to express his long-lasting affection and grief.
