Lot 5: Jia Wu
Traditional fortune label: Moderate
Lot poem
You have three matters in which you lack freedom, Your courtyard is desolate and cold as autumn. When the days of transition between the Ox and Rat arrive, All things will return to spring, and there is no need to worry.
Story and textual notes
The phrase 'three matters' has two interpretations. One refers to mind, speech, and intent, which are unstable and drifting. The other refers to wealth, honor, and longevity, which are remote and groundless. Both imply the inability to control one's destiny. The autumn scenery is desolate, and a courtyard like this is clearly cold and lonely. The transition of Ox and Rat refers to the junction of the Zi (Rat) and Chou (Ox) periods, indicating that better days lie ahead and one will finally get their wish. All things return to spring means everything will begin to flourish, like plants thriving in spring, bringing delight to the heart and eye. What is there to worry about? For now, it is best to endure and wait patiently.
Interpretation
At this moment, you cannot have anything go as you wish. Even the simplest communication fails to convey your meaning, and even friends seem to have forgotten your existence. You could say it is cold to the extreme. But misfortune will always come to an end. Once the transition between Zi (Rat) and Chou (Ox) passes, there will be a bright future. It will be like the arrival of spring, and you will not have to worry. This is merely the darkness before dawn. The transition of Zi and Chou could at most be the change of the Rat and Ox years, or it could be the change of the Rat and Ox months or days. No matter how long it takes, you must endure and welcome the bright future.
Traditional summary
Wealth and prosperity are consumed; achievements are delayed; lawsuits will end in favor; illnesses can be treated; marriages should be approached with caution; travelers return; wait for the opportune time, and all things will be favorable.
