Praying to deities is not answered because one only knows how to make wishes but not how to accumulate virtue. The ancestors' silent virtue originally had something to rely on; goodness is rewarded without the slightest omission. Fortunately, if there is a thread of redemption, Heaven will surely not cut off their descendants. 'Mingling' means an adopted son. The incense is not cut off, meaning one can still support the family line. One should be even more determined to continue the ancestors' virtue. Be mindful.
