Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 60
The 60th Lot: Ji Gui
Traditional fortune label: Most Auspicious
Lot poem
Admiring the good reputation of you and your brothers, Just remain modest and humble, do not boast. As the imperial decree and the locust-yellow season draw near, You will both achieve high honors in the imperial examinations.
Story and textual notes
Brothers refers to the friendship of being from the same branch/school. Good reputation refers to outstanding brothers. Striving for humility: all six lines of the Qian (Humility) hexagram are auspicious. Do not boast: warning not to show off one's talent, not to rely on power, and not to be prideful. The imperial decree descends from the high heavens, receiving the honorable rain and dew. 'Huaihuang' (locust-yellow) corresponds to the fourth month, bringing golden tidings of success. The towering imperial examinations will surely select you as the top candidate. Palace flowers in pairs mean both will become talents of the imperial court. How could it be more auspicious? But one must always maintain the fear of hating fullness and loving humility, to have a good end.
Interpretation
Brothers refers to the bond of being taught by the same master. There is no need to envy your brother's good reputation, because you are not bad either and everything is going smoothly. But remember not to show off, rely on power, or be arrogant. You will receive help from Heaven to become famous worldwide overnight, and you will be listed together or promoted and reused at the same time with your fellow disciples. You must remain humble at all times and not gloat due to your success. If you can always practice humility and eliminate jealousy, your good luck will last forever. This lot indicates that good things come in pairs; do not reject or envy your peers, and you can share the honor together.
