The 72nd Lot: Xin Yi
Traditional fortune label: Moderate
Lot poem
The road along the canal goes up and down, Alas, on this long journey, the sun is already setting in the west. Even if there is a season of glory and prosperity, One must wait for the Monkey and the Dog to exchange with the Golden Rooster.
Story and textual notes
A road with ups and downs is a symbol of danger and obstacles. Furthermore, being next to a canal makes it even more hazardous. The long journey is lamentable, indicating extreme hardship. Moreover, the sun dial moves westward, and in an instant, it will be dark; how can one escape from the danger? Shen belongs to the Monkey, Xu belongs to the Dog, and You belongs to the Rooster. Even if there is prosperity, it will only manifest during the hours, days, months, or years of Shen, You, and Xu. This means the current fortune is extremely unfavorable, and one must patiently keep to one's place.
Interpretation
The road is already rugged and difficult to walk, let alone a bumpy road along a canal. When evening comes and the sun sets in the west, it becomes even harder to travel. Danger lies everywhere; a single misstep could lead to a fatal fall. Therefore, one must not force oneself forward but stop here to avoid bringing disaster upon oneself. Even if there are times of glory and wealth, one must wait until the years, months, days, or hours of Shen, You, and Xu to achieve them. Currently in a state of being surrounded by difficulties on all sides, you must patiently wait for the opportunity to arrive, and never be impatient, otherwise it will bring misfortune.
Traditional summary
Seeking wealth is delayed; predicting illness is dangerous; fame is hard to achieve; messages are still far away; lawsuits will end in misfortune; marriage will surely be late; pregnancy will involve a scare; the foundation is not yet stable.
