Guan Di Fortune Sticks · Lot 84
Lot 84: Ren Ding
Traditional fortune label: Moderate
Lot poem
The affairs herein are even more chaotic; One in the game must know the key move in advance. Do not listen too closely to long-tongued women; Earnestly practice propriety and righteousness with a steadfast heart.
Story and textual notes
Chaotic affairs refer to currently being in a dangerous situation. The key move in advance is the key to winning the game, just like playing chess. If one move is powerful, the whole game is won. For this, one must hold onto their own views and not believe what others say. Long-tongued women should especially be avoided, hence 'do not listen too closely'. Righteousness governs affairs, and propriety governs the mind; the key move lies in this. A steadfast heart means one must remain firm forever and not start diligently but end lazily. One must act with clarity and appropriateness and not be shaken or deceived by superficial talk.
Interpretation
Currently in a dangerous situation, you must make a decisive move now, just like a chess player making a well-thought-out and cautious move that determines the success or failure of the entire game. Ignore the whispers around you, especially the words of women at home, do not listen to their talk. Put propriety and righteousness into practice, and do not be lazy; you must persevere to overcome this current difficulty. This lot warns against believing the words of others, especially women in the family, and to handle matters with extra caution.
