The 12th Celestial Lot: Li Bai Scooping the Moon
Traditional fortune label: Most Unfavorable
Lot poem
A mirage of towers on the sea is boundlessly illusory, Towering ten thousand yards high to connect with the heavens. Suddenly scattered by a gust of wild wind, Sometimes it still gathers as floating blue smoke.
Story and textual notes
Taibai refers to Li Bai, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty. Li Bai was frustrated in officialdom and took poetry and wine as his companions. He was chivalrous, bold, and unconstrained. He was the protagonist of the story of the drunken man scooping the moon. Indulging in heavy drinking alone, Li Taibai, who had always aspired to become an immortal, looked at the reflection of the bright moon in the water, felt light as a celestial being, and actually reached out to scoop the moon from the water.
Interpretation
The clam in the sea breathes out vapor like towers, reaching high to heaven, but as soon as the wind comes, it is blown away and scattered. Although scattered, it gathers again like floating smoke, unable to last long; this is a scene of pure emptiness and volatility. Those who obtain this celestial lot should take performing good deeds as their foundation, so they can be stable and long-lasting, and things will not be blown away by others. This lot has more bad luck than good, and one must guard against gossip from petty people. It is advisable to pray for blessings from Heaven on that day. The false illusion of a mirage portends drawing water with a wicker basket in vain, bringing more bad luck than good. This is a Most Unfavorable lot. One should perform good deeds and be pragmatic as one's duty, and not be enticed by false illusions.
Traditional summary
The sick are in danger, wealth is also empty, sericulture and livestock bring no success, if asking about plans, things will have no end, marriage is incompatible, fame is not attained, travelers have not arrived, pregnancy has danger, if asking about the household, it is not prosperous.
