Oracle Lot 16: The Imperial Uncle Meets Shui Jing

Traditional fortune label: Good Fortune

Lot poem

Crows return at the horizon under the setting sun, Children ride back on calves beyond the fields. Qiang flutes are blown repeatedly, sounding loud and clear, With short and long melodies, what great joy!

Story and textual notes

Liu Bei, the Imperial Uncle, chanced upon Mr. Shui Jing (Water Mirror) just as the sun was setting and crows at the horizon were returning to their nests. From beyond the hills came the sound of flutes; it was cowherd boys riding calves, leisurely returning home. The tunes of the shepherd flutes, sometimes long, sometimes short, high and low, were free, harmonious, and full of joy.

Interpretation

At sunset over the hills, crows and magpies return to their nests at the horizon. The cowherd boys in the countryside also ride their cattle home, playing bamboo flutes that fill the ears along the way; these children are very happy. Those who obtain this oracle lot will find a sense of carefree joy and a sign of late success. Do your best in everything, and keep a clear conscience regardless of gain or loss; then all matters will be stable and unobstructed, leaving no need for worry. As the saying goes: 'Do your best and leave the rest to heaven's will; tomorrow will be better.'

Traditional summary

Fame and wealth will come late; marriage can be consummated, and pregnancy is without danger; the traveler is on their way back; sericulture is successful in the late season; illness will be cured, securing peace; plans and wishes will align with one's desires.
