The rolling mountains pay homage to the Central Peak, As if ministers are lined up in the imperial court. Standing in two neat and solemn rows, How could one not be joyful residing in such a place?
Story and textual notes
Zhu Hongwu, Emperor Taizu of Ming (Zhu Yuanzhang), became a monk at Huangjiao Temple in his youth. Poor in childhood, he herded cattle to support his family. He once climbed Mount Song with a group of cowherd boys and said: 'If I become emperor in the future, my ministers will bow and pay homage to me just like these mountains.' Later, Zhu Yuanzhang founded the Ming Dynasty and indeed venerated the Five Sacred Mountains as deities. The Five Sacred Mountains are: Mount Tai (East), Mount Heng (South), Mount Hua (West), Mount Heng (North), and Mount Song (Central).
