The 57th Oracle Lot: Solely Claiming the Flower Queen
Traditional fortune label: Good Fortune
Lot poem
The spring rain on the small building has just subsided, Wooden clogs tread ceaselessly on the street. Suddenly, the flower seller enters the alley, Having bought a single branch, walk home slowly.
Story and textual notes
The spring rain has just subsided, and people wearing clogs walk continuously in the streets. Suddenly, a flower vendor enters the alley selling fresh flowers. Buying a branch of flowers, one walks slowly, fearing the slippery road.
Interpretation
This oracle lot indicates that spring has arrived, bringing new life and vitality. One should seize the opportunity to "claim the title of belle"—"belle" meaning the leader or first. This implies that one should strive to be the first to reap the benefits in all things. However, while acting with courage, care, sharp eyes, and quick hands, one must also progress step-by-step. As the saying goes, "Once you catch the deer, you must know how to remove the antlers slowly." From the small building, one hears the continuous spring rain finally stop, yet the sound of footsteps on the street continues unabated. Suddenly, the voice of a flower vendor is heard from the alley entrance. Immediately buy the first branch of flowers, and then walk home steadily on the slippery street. Those who obtain this oracle lot must remain calm and not rush in their affairs; being cautious will naturally prevent errors. Judged by the words "walk slowly," it portends peace, great fortune, and steady, unobstructed progress in all matters.
