Story and textual notes
Wang Xizhi, a person of the Eastern Jin dynasty, was born into nobility and rose to the position of Right General and Internal Historian of Kuaiji. He later resigned from his official post to return to his hometown of Shaoxing, Zhejiang, where he achieved outstanding success in studying calligraphy, creating his own style and opening a new path for brush calligraphy for future generations. Wang Xizhi, the famous calligrapher, returned home from ten thousand miles away. He often played the flute, strummed the zither, and drank wine. Many friends gathered to chat about the wind and moon, feeling joyful and extremely happy.
Interpretation
This oracle lot describes a person of talent and learning who also has a solid economic foundation. They abandon official rivalries, retreat at the height of their career, and resolutely return to their hometown. On one hand, they enjoy the pleasure of family and friendship in a relaxed and carefree manner; on the other hand, they can continue to develop their expertise and achieve renown for posterity.
