The 68th Oracle Lot: Jiang Taigong Achieves His Ambitions
Traditional fortune label: Good Fortune
Lot poem
For long harboring high ambitions yet unable to express them, He held a fishing rod by the Wei River, angling for swimming fish. King Wen traveled a thousand miles to seek this worthy sage, Defeating Zhou and raising Zhou, achieving all as he pleased.
Story and textual notes
Jiang Taigong, unrecognized for his talents, could only project his lofty ambitions among the mountains and rivers. He fished by the Wei River, using a hookless rod, creating the famous saying, 'Jiang Taigong fishes; those who are willing will take the hook.' At that time, King Zhou of Shang was tyrannical and ruthless, and various factions rose up. King Wen of Zhou traveled from afar to seek the secluded Jiang Taigong on the banks of the Wei River. In the end, Jiang Taigong assisted King Wen and King Wu of Zhou in defeating King Zhou and establishing the imperial rule of the Zhou Dynasty.
